There is a new rule from our Local Health Department related to masks and schools. This change for ICA will go into effect on Monday, February 1st. We took the time to ask them why the change and we wanted to share the rationale with all of you.
"There have been a few peer-reviewed papers published now on the effectiveness of various types of masks. The concern with gaiters is that they are single layer and are often made from that athletic polyester blend material. The research is showing that the efficacy of this type of face covering is lower compared to surgical or two-layered cotton masks. It is easier for respiratory particles to escape through the fabric of gaiters. I think there is also more room for user error with the gaiters as they tend to fall down off your nose." - MDHHS
